The Quadruple-Part 3- Spring Thunder XC Half

Oh dear, I wanted to reregister for the 7k instead of the half to give it a rest one week but I missed the deadline by a day! Oopz. This course was not easy and judging from the prerace pictures I was sent, I'd be hard up to break 1:30 on it fresh as opposed to already with 2 halves down. It was a hilly xc course in a pretty park. I just resigned to do it as a workout taking the first of 3 laps sanely to see what the course was like then picking up in the 2nd and 3rd laps. I actually sat back in 4th until about the end of lap 2 when I began to move up. 2nd and 3rd went back and forth til the very end when I caught Yana at the beginning of the final lap. The effects of the previous 2 races were stacking up and I couldn't pull my traditional gap this time and finished a close 3rd. Top 3 were pleasantly surprised by large gift certificates to the Asics shop. There was n o mention of a prize purse before the race. Last yr top8 got gift certificates for about 300$ This time around 3rd place got me about 500$ and some nice gear :) Finishing 1:27 on this not fast course was a surprise too. Each week, I'm getting progressively faster so recovery is ok. Touch wood!

The Spring and fall thunder races are my favorites of the Moscwo runs. The organizer tries to do the absolute best for the runners and each time I run his events they are better and better. Courses are accurate to a T and there were 3 well stocked aid stations along the way and there were even 3 drum bands out there to keep us going. Hats off to Misha for putting on a top notch race!
